George Hotel Edinburgh Wedding Photographer

Wed, 04 Jan 2012

Once again I was the wedding photographer at the George Hotel in Edinburgh. Well it has been far to long since I wrote the last blog and now trying to get back into work mode after a lovely Christmas and New Year.

This was the wedding of Danilelle and Scott at the George Hotel in Edinburgh, it was a beautiful autumnal day, the sun shone for them and the leaves were a delightful golden colour. After the ceremony we took a walk down to the Queen Street private gardens as the George Hotel has a key for this secret beauty spot in the centre of the town. The bridesmaids and immediate family also joined in with the photographs we took there, then I took just the two of them for a wander around the gardens to capture some nice relaxed images.

Freja Designer Dressmaking Edinburgh

Thu, 20 Oct 2011

Freja Designer Dressmaking is a small design studio in the centre of Edinburgh’s New Town, we exist to design and make lovely clothes ladies feel good to wear.

We specialise in Weddings and I would like to give you a small introduction to having a dress made, as it something a lot of brides don’t even consider.

The way we work is that we have an initial appointment with the bride; we would love to hear about your plans for your wedding as it helps us design the right thing for you. Perhaps you have ideas for style and silhouette, and we welcome your input, so we can get the right thing for you for your big day.

We will then make sketches and price out what we suggest for your dress, if you decide to go ahead, give us a deposit, and we will start making your dress. We make a sheet fabric dress first, where we cut the neck line etc to suit you; we also look at the size of the skirt, train etc.

We invite you back to try on the dress again a couple of times, to make adjustments and make it exactly right for you.

We also make bridesmaids dresses, mother of bride and groom outfits, and flowergirls.. sometimes with matching outfits for her doll..

Wedding Photographer George Hotel Edinburgh

I am quite a regular wedding photographer at the George Hotel in Edinburgh and have photographed many weddings over the years at this lovely venue. On this occasion I was photographing Jennifer and Christopher’s wedding, they had their wedding ceremony at Newhaven Church by the shoreside so after the pre-wedding discussions we decided to do most of the photography down at the shore and we were blessed with some lovely weather for the day.

After the wedding ceremony everyone took a stroll down to the shore were we did a big group photograph of everyone at the wedding, most guests then headed off to the George Hotel for a drink and canapes while a few family members stayed on for some more photos.

It was a new location for me which is always nice as it makes me think about new interesting wedding photographs I can produce, the sky was quite dramatic with some lovely clouds floating by, so I decided to go for some low angle shots and make the most of the light house location and the sky. For something a little different we also decide to pop by Inverleith Park on the way up to the George Hotel for a few photos there. It was a great day photographing a lovely couple, nice weather and nice locations, all in all a really enjoyable day at work.

Wedding Photographer for Dalhousie Castle Edinburgh

Sun, 26 Jun 2011

I was delighted to do the wedding photography at Dalhousie Castle for the lovely couple Caroline and Steven. I have been to Dalhousie Castle lots of times over the years to photograph weddings and it remains one of my favourite venues. Its a beautiful location and situated just a few minutes outside of Edinburgh, if you are looking around venues at the moment its certainly worth going to have a look around.

It was a bit of a blustery day with some rain, but this did nothing to dampen anyones sprits, the ceremony was a beautiful affair and the sun broke out from its cover after the wedding ceremony and we saw some lovely blue sky. We managed to get outside for a while and take advantage of this to take some wedding photographs using Dalhousie Castle with the blue sky creating a stunning backdrop.

One of the great things about Dalhousie Castle is it doesn’t really matter what the weather is doing as its has such photogenic interiors it makes the wedding photography a delight. I can easily get carried away in such a venue and spend all day taking wedding photographs of the bride and groom but I don’t like to hold up the proceedings and I really like the couple to get time to socialise with all their friends and family rather than disappearing with the wedding photographer all afternoon!

Caroline and Steven were a really lovely couple, it was a great day. To me I always feel its a pleasure and honour to be chosen as part of the special day of a wedding couple.

Wedding Photography at Barony Castle South of Edinburgh

Sun, 26 Jun 2011

I was delighted to be the wedding photographer at the Barony Castle in Eddleston, south of Edinburgh for Laura and Duncan’s wedding day. I arrived early to get some bride preparation shots, I always like to do this if I can as I feel it creates and nice story feel to the set of images to use in the album, it gives me the chance to get lots of details shots of the flowers and shoes etc also as these things can easily get overlooked in the photographs later in the day.

After the bridal preparation photographs with Laura and the bridesmaids getting ready I headed off to find a slightly nervous looking Duncan for photographs of himself with the boys, we had a bit of fun with them running along the driveway, I think its nice to get a few relaxed shots like this before the ceremony to help everyone shake off the pre-wedding nerves.

Laura and Duncan were a delight to spend time with to take their wedding photographs it was a privilege to be a part of their special day. Unfortunately due to the inclement weather we couldn’t do many wedding photographs outside but the rain did nothing to dampen anyones sprits and a great time was had by all. Laura and Duncan were game for diving outside for a few minutes with umbrellas to get a few photographs but we did most of the shoot inside but Barony Castle is such a lovely venue its really not a issue and I always relish the chance to look for some new shots to do at any location.

St. Mary’s Cathedral Wedding in Edinburgh

Thu, 12 May 2011

Nikki and David’s wedding ceremony was held in the rather splendid St. Mary’s Cathedral in Edinburgh, it really is a gorgous location to get married in. After the wedding ceremony we took the family photographs outside on the steps which was a treat for all the passing tourists to see a Scottish wedding in progress.

Nikki, David and myself then headed up to Authurs seat for the wedding photography, we kept everything very relaxed without any real posing, we just used the beautiful views of Edinburgh and had a walk around the small lakes. After finishing the photography there we headed back through Edinburgh down to the Queen Charlotte Rooms for the wedding reception, its a lovely wedding reception venue and well worth checking out.

I always like to just have a desreet walk around the wedding reception looking for nice candid shots of the guests interacting and capture the real feeling of the day. I loved the lighting for the first dance, we got a nice bit of dry ice which just caught the ceiling lights to create the beams leading your eye in the photograph to Nikki and David.

Norton House Wedding Photography

Wedding Photographs taken at the Norton House Hotel in Edinburgh for the wedding of Carron and Douglas.

Carron and Douglas tied the knot at the Norton House in Edinburgh.

Carron and Douglas decided to get married in the lovely new Garden Suite at the Norton House, Carron was getting ready at the hotel so I got a few really nice photographs of her coming down the old staircase with her Dad before being given away at the wedding ceremony.

Afterwards as the weather was so nice we took all the family photographs outside in the grounds and then went up to the old house to take advantage of the stunning staircase leading up to the rooms.

It was a great day at the Norton House Hotel, everyone was having a good time and enjoying the amazingly good weather. Carron and Douglas were a lovely couple and I am sure they are having a great time on their honeymoon.

Wedding Photography Dalmahoy Hotel Edinburgh

Last Saturday I was at the beautiful venues of St. Mary’s Church Dalmahoy for a ceremony followed by the Dalmahoy Hotel just west of Edinburgh for the wedding of Jennifer and Keith.

St. Mary's Church, Dalmahoy Edinburgh

Wedding photography at St. Mary's Church Dalmahoy Edinburgh

Jennifer and Keith didn’t want a photographer hanging around them the whole day and were looking for a few photographs to just capture the feel of the day, so I spent allot of time just shooting in a candid reportage style.

I always love going to these venues they are just so beautiful and picturesque. Unfortunately the day was rather damp and cold which makes the photography a bit more of a challenge as nobody wants to be hanging around outside shivering, the inside of St. Mary’s Church is really lovely and if you capture the lighting right you can get some really atmospheric images during the ceremony. After the ceremony was over we headed off to the Dalmahoy House Hotel and we did manage to nip out to get a few wedding photographs at the front door which is rather majestic.

Everybody was having a great time despite the weather and the inside of the Dalmahoy Hotel is a really beautiful place to have your wedding reception.

Wedding photography at the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh.

My first wedding photographed in 2011! The lovely Erika and Antony tied the knot with their wedding at the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh.

Well the weather held out rather well seeing as it was so nasty in the days leading up to the wedding. I went to Erika’s home to take some photos of herself and the bridesmaids getting prepared for the big day, I was surprised at the organisation and relaxed atmosphere, there was no stress in the air as is often the case at these times.

After doing some photography there I then headed of to the marvellous venue of the Corn Exchange, there is so much space inside its easy to move around and find the best positions to take photographs there, this is also coupled with their beautiful lighting, set up and professional staff to create a really nice atmosphere for a wedding.

After the ceremony we headed outside the Corn Exchange for a few minutes to get some nice wedding photographs without taking to long to get cold!

Later we got some nice family photographs on the decking at the back of the Corn Exchange building, from there onto photos of the speeches which I always enjoy, its a great time to catch good candid facial expressions and then it was the dancing which Erika and Antony put on a great performance (I wish I could dance like that).

Model Portfolio Photographer Edinburgh

Thu, 27 Jan 2011

As well as being a wedding photographer in Edinburgh I also photograph commercial photography projects including fashion photography for various publications. A natural extension of this is to photograph model portfolios, I do this for individual clients and model agencies. My photographs appear on the web sites of Edinburgh based Stolen Model Agency, Glasgow based agencies Colours Model Agency, The Model Team and Superior Model Management.

I thought it would be nice to post a selection of model portfolio photographer images I have taken recently in my studio and on location around Edinburgh.

I’m available to photograph model portfolios in Edinburgh for professional agency standard portfolios or for personal commission. I have professional freelance make up artists and if you wish professional stylists to make your photographs really stand out from the crowd.

I am also happy to give advice on the type of photographs that would be suitable for you and give you more comprehensive portfolio of strong images.

These model portfolio photographer images were taken in Edinburgh at the studio and on Arthurs Seat which is just around the corner from the studio which is based on London Road, it is a large comfortable fully equipped studio which lends itself really well to model portfolio photography as well as fashion and commercial projects.

The photography is done in a nice relaxed atmosphere and your more than welcome to bring along a friend or Mum and Dad as long as they don’t mind possibly assisting occasionally with holding a reflector and looking after clothes.
